Priorities

Today is MOPS.
This day comes once a month from September - May.
This day can be insane and overtake my 24 hours, if I let it. I usually do. Today was not different.

I normally do not mind. I love MOPS. I love the women that come. I love preparing for MOPS. I love the end results...moms having a night out!

I have to confess. I have a pretty amazing team assisting this ministry. So my work load is less, my stress is less, my mind should not be so occupied, my time should not feel so squeezed. Why does it feel like it is?! Because I am stubborn. Because I am me. Because I need to listen...

After doing a few things to prepare for this evening, I grab a book, the house phone and my cell phone, and head for the tub. I tell myself that I need my cell phone IN THE BATHROOM...because, " Wendy may text" or "Sarah may...", or "...need", or "....something", or "the school may call because they couldn't get me on my home phone (that is right next to the cell phone)", etc.

The house phone rings...I lay the book down on the ledge...the book bumps the cell phone (on the ledge)...the cell phone falls INTO the tub. Nice.

"That's a first," is what you are probably thinking. Cell phone falling in the bath tub. Nah. Not for me. This is a second! Yes, you read that correctly. This is the second time a cell phone of mine has ended up looking at a rubber duckie tummy from 3 inches under. The first time, I was...well, that story is not important. The point is, it went in the water. Now, I've done it again.

I immediately take the phone out of the water, take off the battery and let it dry.
Because I am "experienced" in this area, the odds are not in my favor that the phone is going to make it, because of the pink little "x's" that I see making their presence known.

Corey. One of my favorite people. He also happens to be my favorite cousin and a cell phone "collector." I call him in hopes that he has a spare. He does not. He tells me what to do with mine. "Use a hairdryer on the phone for a few minutes then sit it out in the sun. AND for pity sake be PATIENT." As if I'm not?! (He knows me well!)

I follow his advice and I roast that phone under the hottest setting on my hair dryer for a good 5 minutes. I then do the same to the battery. The phone is now soaking up some rays on my porch railing.

The good news: it's working! Yes!

I do not have to buy, borrow, or trade for a new phone. I do not have to loose the pictures I have taken. I do not have to transfer contacts. I do not have to be without a phone (because that would be disaster!) for more than one day.

I believe this was God's way of telling me this:

Contrary to what I at times think, I am not "the end all be all." There is only one that can claim that title.

I need to continue to have faith in the intelligent, independent, strong women that have so graciously been lead to serve in this ministry along side of me.

I need continue to have faith in Him! I need to let go of the fears that come to me if I don't have my phone with me on days such as these, MOPS days.

I am thankful for this re-prioritizing of my priorities.
