Do you know what faith is?
Looking back over the past three weeks, this is what I KNOW faith to be.
Faith is hearing His calming, quiet voice in your heart while your angry voice is screaming loudly to Him.
Faith is knowing every cliche' phrase of comfort and saying them.
Faith is having every cliche' phrase of comfort said to you.
Faith is being gracious.
Faith is crying.
Faith is questioning.
Faith is looking beyond this earth.
Faith is not understanding.
Faith is seeing Him shine through a friend in a nightmare.
Faith is believing in something you cannot see.
Faith is believing in something you cannot touch.
Faith is believing in something you cannot hear.
Faith is opening your eyes, hands, and ears to Him... who is proving Himself faithful. I believe He gets very frustrated with us because He exhausts so many ways yet we still doubt!
I now know that God teaches us faith not only through learning about Him through His Word, and deepening our relationship with Him, but also accepting the comfort He gives us through other people and situations.
I remember a teacher trying to explain faith when I was young. She said something like this: Faith is like getting in an airplane and flying across the ocean. You cannot see the plane being held up. You don't understand the mechanics that make a plane work. If you sit there and think about it, for the average person, you cannot understand the mechanics of what makes an airplane stay in the air. You trust that all is okay. Sometimes the plane has a smooth flight and sometimes it has a bumpy one. Sometimes it may have a tragic one. Yet you still walk on board.
'for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.' Psalm 26:3
